The Oscar Winning Film: Moon Light

Directed by Barry Jenkins “Moonlight” is one of the best films of this year. This movie is about the life of a Black American man named Chiron, and how his life turns out throughout the years. Living with his single drug addicted mother the movie talks about his life in being neglected, withdrawn, and bullied in his lifetime. In the movie he is given the little guidance he gets from the neighborhood drug dealer Juan and his girlfriend as well as his cuban friend Kevin. In the movie Chiron also deals with the learning to find himself as well as falling in love and understanding his sexuality. In the film their was beautiful acting done by Janelle Monae, Naomie Harris, Mahershala Ali, Ashton Sanders, Andre Holland, Alexis R. Hibbert, Jaden Piner, Shariff Earp, Patrick Decile, Jharrel Jerome, and Duan Sandy Sanderson. With these actors and actresses the movie became the well developed and well understood story that will go down in history. With the collaborations of Mr. Jenkins as well as help with the story from Tarell Alvin McCraney they worked together to make the movie we all know as “Moonlight”. With the movie being released it gained plenty of success. With awards from the Oscars for best motion picture of the year, An Oscar for best adapted screenplay, A Golden Globe for best motion picture drama, and a AFI award. Overall, The movie “Moonlight” has done a great job taken over the screens as well as taken a part in our hearts today. With this movie being made it took a better stand in helping our society learn about the struggles of African American people and those coming to understanding themselves. This movie helps prove that it’s okay to take time and understand yourself and that you’ll have your entire life to get where you want to.
